If not in flower, this tiny plant just looks like grass with its unconspicuous foliage.

When flowering though, the size comparisons between flowers and leaves are very impressive though! This species is capable of storing its resources for the flowering period in irregularly shaped carrot-like underground organs.

 

Aristolochia erecta originates from arid outcrops of the southern USA and northern Mexico.
